Reframing LA
It seems like the most successful portrayals of L.A. perpetuate impressions/images/ideas that are the least representative of and that least understand the city. Consequently, it always warms my heart when I hear of someone doing something to combat this sad phenomenon.
Recently there was a march on Washington by supporters of the slavery reparations movement. Opponents of the movement scoff at the suggestion that a reparations lawsuit would even hold legal water. One argument used to support this idea is that the statute of limitations has expired. However, according to Dr. Jonathan Farley, "there is no statute of limitations for genocide."
I didn't know that Tavis Smiley has an LA-based NPR show. (this link may point to a different story after August)
